The iPhone 15 was introduced on September 12 of the previous year at Apple’s Wonderlust event, and, as is customary each year, technology enthusiasts and Apple devotees eagerly anticipated the device’s release. From individuals queuing up outside Apple stores to engaging in discussions on various platforms about the latest features, the excitement was tangible. Now, there’s positive news for all iPhone 15 owners – the battery life of your device is now expected to have twice the lifespan as initially promised.
iPhone 15 has double the promised battery lifespan
Initially, the iPhone 15 was claimed to endure 500 charging cycles while retaining 80 percent battery health. However, Apple has recently revised this claim, stating that iPhone 15 models can maintain 80 percent of their battery capacity even after 1000 charging cycles. This significant improvement in battery lifespan was announced by Apple on Tuesday, and according to Engadget, it aligns with upcoming EU regulations that assess phones based on their battery longevity. Importantly, this enhancement does not necessitate any new hardware or software updates.
Previously, Apple’s support documents indicated that iPhone batteries could retain 80 percent of their original charge after 500 cycles. Following retests on the long-term battery health of the 2023 smartphones – iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max – Apple found that they can now maintain 80 percent capacity after at least 1,000 cycles. The company intends to update its support documents to reflect this revised estimate.
Apple clarified that their testing involved subjecting the batteries to 1,000 charge and discharge cycles under specific conditions, along with various tests simulating common usage scenarios. Despite no physical or software changes, Apple attributes the upgraded estimate to ongoing improvements in its battery components and iOS power management.
It’s important to note that for older iPhones manufactured before 2023, the original estimate of retaining 80 percent capacity after 500 charge cycles remains unchanged. Apple is currently investigating whether estimates for older models need updating.
About iPhone 15
Regarding the iPhone 15 itself, it features a 6.1-inch display and was released in five color options – pink, yellow, green, blue, and black. The design remains consistent with the iPhone 14 and previous models, featuring a Dynamic Island notch instead of the usual notch. Camera upgrades include a 48-megapixel primary sensor for improved low-light photography and portrait shots. Powered by Apple’s A16 bionic processor, the iPhone 15 also introduces the shift to a USB Type-C charging port, bidding farewell to the lightning port used in previous models.
